I'm a co-author on an article by Wendy Gelernter and Larry Stowell of PACE Turf in this month's issue of Golf Course Management. We wrote about documenting progress toward sustainability: 

In this article, we present several simple monitoring approaches that can help take the mush out of sustainability, and instead treat it as a measurable, science-based agronomic phenomenon. All of these procedures can easily be put into practice at your facility.

We discussed, among other things, reducing turf acreage, implementing the MLSN guidelines to minimize unnecessary fertilizer applications, the Global Soil Survey, water use, minimizing pesticide toxicity, and especially, keeping simple documentation of the inputs and resources used to manage turf.
